Racing Time — built with passion, powered by FLOW.

Today we are here to present you arguably the best RAC (racing) game the crypto world has ever seen so far: the Racing Time.

Are you ready anon?

This article is structured as below:

  • Racing Time overview
  • Game Mechanism Design
  • NFT Integration
  • Why Flow
  • The Future of Metaverse Racing

Overview

Racing Time is the next-gen RAC game developed by a group of top-tier game designers, whose background includes world class video game companies such as EA, Tencent, CodeMasters and NetEase. Supported by Flow chain and a unique NFT architecture design (more on this below), Racing Time will not only allow players to collect and trade rare cars, but also invites players to modify and assemble their personalized racing beast with 50+ parts and gadgets, as well as countless car skins designed by top-notch artists and designers.

No disrespect to existing blockchain RAC games, but please understand that what we are making here is not mini-game like stuff. Our team has been working specifically in AAA RAC game industry for more than 7 years and owns the patent for our own racing physics engine operating system.

We are not here to mess around.

Game Mechanisms

There are two core parts in the Racing Time gaming experience: racing and modification. While the main purpose of car modification is to enhance car performance in races against other players, we believe that the complex and professionally designed car tuning system will in itself become the focus of interest for many hardcore car geeks.

Car Race

When designing the races, our principle is to stick with the traditional racing game protocol as much as possible so that previous RAC gamers are able to immediately start playing with minimal friction, while making a few gaming model twists so it doesn’t turn into just “another NFS copypasta”. Players can choose to battle against other players with our PvP (Player vs. Player) system, or to go along the storyline with the PvE (Player vs. Environment) system and unlock essential parts for car modification.

A few different competition systems are available for PvP racing (this is our current plan and might subject to change):

Quarterly Points Tournament

Players will be placed into different level groups based on their overall performance rating (PR). Their scores in weekly competitions will then be recorded and counted into their seasonal rating. At the end of each season, players will be ranked respectively within their group and the winner gets the prize from prize pool.

Off-Road Challenge

Complex climatic and geographic conditions require the players to make specific modification to maximize their racing performance. Only cars that meet the Off-Road challenge criteria will be allowed to join this type of race. After all, you don’t want to ruin your precious Ferrari on a snow mountain do you?

Tour de France

Race reserved for super car owners. This is where the serious games are happening.

Ladder Tournament

Players will be racing against other players’ ‘shadow’ in order to gain enough points to climb up the ladder. May the glory be with all the top ranking players.

For PvP system, we will also allow players to team up and cooperate to win the race:

Triathlon

Randomly generated map with a mix of highway, muddy road, mountain, snow land etc.

3 players per team, each player will need to strategically modify their car to make sure that the team can collectively perform well under different racing conditions.

Guild Match

8 players in total with 4 players in each guild. Winning first place will gain 10 points, second place 8 points, third place 6 points, and so on. The guild with more points wins.

If you are in a total autist mode and want to have 0 interaction with other players whatsoever, or you just want to collect some more parts to upgrade your car, the PvE system is a perfect choice.

The main storyline consists of several chapters and each chapter of 10 episodes. Your performance will be rated based on your clearance time and degree of completion in each challenge. After the completion of each chapter, prizes of different levels will be given based on the amount of stars you collected.

Other than the main story, there will also be series races that requires specific car models to participate. More on racing in later articles.

Car Modification

In general, there are two types of accessaries used for modification: those for style and those for performance. Printings, sprays, spoilers, wheel hubs… these are essential components for you to build a totally customized supercar that kicks ass. Who doesn’t Want an absolutely banger car that girls immediately fall in love with?

Rare style accessaries can be collected by attending special events (alpha leak: there will be one coming up soon), winning tournaments and also there’s a chance to get them from our blindbox sale which is scheduled for late October.

Of course in order to keep our professionalism intact and also for the sake of those true car geeks, we promise the performance tuning system we offer is second to none. Suspension system module, engine module, transmission module, brake module, nitrogen tank module and jet power module are the six core modules that can be used to substantially enhance your car performance. All of the modules are upgradable based on the premise of the quality of your car.

For instance, the initial car given to first time players is entry level, or of the “grey quality”, therefore only compatible with grey modules. In order to upgrade your car, you need to first collect the design diagram for green quality car (the next higher quality available). Once your car is upgraded to green quality, you can then use general accessaries that you collected through PvP and PvE gaming to upgrade the current modules you have.

Below is the performance framework that details our tuning system (I know it’s pretty complicated):

So much on modification for now.

NFT integration

I’m sure this is the part that will get most of you excited.

Yeah yeah sure, we are going to make everything mentioned in the modification section a NFT. But please bear with me here: we are doing so not just for the sake of it. Bringing our game on-chain is actually a pretty daring decision we made in order to differentiate ourselves from traditional game makers and also to better serve the players.

In another word, we are decentralizing this thing.

In a traditional online game, the players never actually own anything whether they realize it or not. No matter if it’s your rare gun that you spent thousands of dollar on or the special skin that you earned from finishing a series of impossible tasks, essentially they are just a line of code stored in gaming company’s server. If one day, for some reason, the company decides to shut down the game, the value of your precious item will immediately drop to zero. That’s it.

No one actually reads the terms of agreement before signing up to a game, but most of time there are specific sections within the document that state clearly that, the right players have over their gaming item is the right to use, and it’s the company who has all the final say that decides the item’s intrinsic value. Enough trolling on the boomer economy, but basically this is the case for most existing games.

The emergence of NFTs, however, completely changed the dynamics on the gaming item ownership issue. As long as you are the owner of the NFT, you are the owner of whatever underlying asset that it represent, forever. Even if the game eventually failed, as long as there is a collector market for the item, you are free to trade it whenever you want. That is the power of blockchain: it gives the ownership back to the actual owners.

We are decentraliziiinnnnnng!

For Racing Time in specific, not only did we allow players to own their items, which is what all NFTs are for so not really surprising, but we also designed a whole new technical structure for NFTs, that no one has ever seen before, that allows players to freely integrate different NFT together (upgrading cars and applying printing to cars etc.) and dissemble them when needed. This interaction between NFTs doesn’t just occur on a UI level (meaning that integration only happens within the game but the original NFTs remain isolated), but we actually allows the merging of NFTs themselves. More detail on this in future tech articles. For now just remember that whatever performance enhancement and style modification you’ve done for your car, when being sold to secondary market, they will be listed as a whole along the car itself.

A little sneak peak into our WIP garage…

Why Flow?

If we are heading towards a multi-chain future, then our team believes that Flow is one of the most promising candidates to become the metaverse Disneyland. Low fee and high throughput combining with strong entertainment industry connection and IP resources give Flow the edge to absorb a large amount of DeFi users who went brrrr after their degen plays on other chains. You can find more info on Flow scaling solution in their technical paper here.

The intrinsic flexibility of Flow’s architectural design also allows our team to explore new possibilities on how we can integrate NFT into our gaming experience. In the process of coming up with unique solution for NFT assembling, Flow team has been extremely helpful and supportive in term of providing technical advices and laying out potential use-cases in our future development.

In addition to the technical advantages Flow has over other traditional blockchains, the strong and diversified NFT community brought together by projects such as NBA Top Shots, NFL Moments, Cryptokitties and Genies Avatar alike is a clear indicator of Flow team’s marketing and operational capability in term of bringing onboard new consumers and attracting cool, innovating projects to build upon Flow. We believe that through active collaboration with other projects within Flow ecosystem, Racing Time will not only benefit itself from the thriving Flow community, but also provide the ecosystem as a whole with an engaging and exciting playground, where different communities can interact and have friendly matches that further grow the bonding force between each other.

The Future of Metaverse Racing

We 100% share the belief that the future exists in the metaverse. Racing Time as a mobile RAC game is only the first baby step we took towards that future. With the support from Flow team and the growing NFT community, we will keep on innovating to ensure we become an essential force of this generation-defining movement.
